May Update: Custom Networks, Perks for Ledger

While the market in May fell into the sideways, crab-like mode, Zerion continued to grow and ship. In this update, we’ll review things you might have missed last month: the DNA/Genesis merge, custom networks, Disco creds, and more.

The Merge of Zerion DNA and Genesis

Since March 2022, Zerion Genesis NFTs allowed holders to trade on Zerion without any additional fees. These benefits have now been merged with Zerion DNA.

This consolidates all perks, opportunities, discounts, and more under Zerion DNA. Think of your DNA as the membership pass for all things Zerion.

If you haven’t merged your Genesis and DNA, you can do this now.

The important thing to know is that after 11:59 pm UTC, May 18th 2023, any Genesis NFTs transferred, bought, or sold on a secondary market will not be eligible for benefits. This was announced in advance to prevent any fraud.

If you ended up with a Genesis on the “wrong” address, here’s what you can do. Mint a new DNA and merge it with your Genesis. Then transfer your new premium Zerion DNA to the “right” address.

Custom network support

Zerion Wallet now supports any custom EVM network, including testnets.

You can add networks by either searching for them in a list or by adding them manually. You can also use that to define custom RPC settings for Ethereum or another network.

Portfolio tracking for custom networks is limited to just the native assets. But you can still connect to dapps and sign transactions just like on any other network.

The Perks tab: now enabled for Ledger wallets

The Perks tab brings you opportunities based on your onchain history: allowlists, early access, and more.

This was previously limited to only the wallets that you create or import into Zerion by private key or seed phrase.

Now you can also see Perks for your Ledger wallets. You simply connect your address — there is no need to import it via private key (which obvs should always stay in Ledger).

Disco Credentials for Zerion DNA holders

Disco is a decentralized identity protocol that enables offchain verified credentials.

The topic of decentralized identity is usually very abstract and theoretical. But Disco makes these concepts intuitive.

If you hold a Zerion DNA, you can create a Disco account (no gas needed). And you’ll immediately find a verified credential from Zerion. This is a great way to see how DIDs work in practice.

If you don’t know what is DID, listen to our Web3 Wednesdays session with the Disco team.

EIP-6963: Multi Injected Provider Discovery

As part of the upcoming Zerion Wallet browser extension release, Zerion frontend dev @everdimension has co-authored the EIP-6963 to improve the UX of an injected wallet.

“Any Ethereum-based wallet competes for the injected global, and only one can work at a time.

To improve this experience, we’ve shipped a feature called “pause” where you can temporarily stop Zerion wallet from taking up this global and let you use another wallet without having to disable Zerion extension completely. You can even do this on per-dapp basis. A more general solution to this problem is coming with a new EIP which is now in Draft stage.

This proposal allows multiple Ethereum wallets to be seen by dApps and Zerion Extension is one of the first wallets that already supports this EIP.”

Zerion IRL

In May, Zers traveled worldwide, speaking at many conferences.

Zerion team members spoke at EDCON in Montenegro (19-23 May), SpaghettETH in Naples (24-26 May), and more.

The next big event will be EthCC (17-20 July). Until then, there might be a pause in IRL engagements. But rest assured, there will be lots of things happening at Zerion.
